About

Written over the course of 1,500 years by more than 40 writers and in three languages, The Bible is the most influential book in all of history. It has shaped the world and culture, captured the hearts and minds of countless millions of people, and yet it remains one of the most mysterious texts of all time.

CBN Films brings forth the first in a remarkable multi-part documentary series examining the creation and preservation of the world’s bestselling book. Two years in the making, Oracles of God: The Story of the Old Testament is available June 5 on DVD and 4K streaming.

Oracles of God: The Story of the Old Testament examines the history and archaeology of the Old Testament, from Moses and the Torah through the Israelite kingdom, with special focus on the world’s oldest copies of the Hebrew Bible, the Dead Sea Scrolls. Written and directed by Erin Zimmerman and narrated by award-winning actor Iain Glen (Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey), Oracles of God: The Story of the Old Testament is filmed with stunning cinematography in Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and the UK. The 2-hour-long film features dramatic reenactments as well as interviews with notable biblical experts who answer longstanding questions about when, where, and how the text of Old Testament was written, copied, and preserved over thousands of years.

“The story about how The Bible came to be is simply awe-inspiring,” shared Gordon Robertson, executive producer of Oracles of God: The Story of the Old Testament and CEO of the Christian Broadcasting Network. “We at CBN Films hope this new film series will both educate and inspire people about the history and authenticity of the Bible.”

“The Oracles of God series title comes from a passage in Romans 3 in which the Apostle Paul states that the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God, or the Bible,” said Erin Zimmerman, CBN Films writer and director. “This first film in the series shows the great care and reverence with which the Jewish scribes copied and preserved the text of the Old Testament. The Bible is not only God’s love letter to us; it’s a gift from the Jewish people to the entire world.”

Oracles of God: The Story of the Old Testament will be available June 5 for a gift of any dollar amount. It is available on DVD and instant 4K streaming access on the CBN Family App (available on Apple TV, ROKU, FIRE TV, Mobile Phones, Computer). CBN expects to release the next film in the series, which will begin the story of the New Testament, in the coming year.
